Bak Maha Rangana

The Sinhalese Cultural Forum's Bak Maha Rangana, which is Sydney's premier Sri Lankan cultural event, was held in a glorious fashion on Saturday at the  Hills Centre, Castle Hill.

As the name denotes, "Demansala Abiyasa", the merging and blending of the two facets of the Sri Lankan culture- the traditional and the modern, was achieved in the most positive fashion on centre stage.

Out of many achievements, the most amaizing was how the youth embraced this experience by activity participating alongside the elder generation. The show ran flawlessly, starting sharp at 6:30pm as planned, and showcasing a wide array of entertaining and culturally enriched performances.

The house was packed with 1500 people and many people were unable to get tickets.  For the first time in the history of Bak Maha Rangana, all tickets were  sold out days before the actual show. A special thanks to our youth, who volunteered their time and effort.

Yet again, it was proved that Sydney's local talent is second to none. The wide variety of performances superlatively unified the different styles of music and dance together, evoking a sentiment of pride among the audience. Our own stars Jackson Anthony, his son Sajitha Anuththara and the pop duo Bathiya and Santhush magnificently entertained the audience merging the two facets, the  traditional and the modern.

One of the most anticipated items by the Tharuna Youth Group, not only delivered but exceed all expectations of the quality and enjoyment of the performance, marvellously blending humour with serious key underlying issues existing within the Sri Lankan community in Australia.

Chandramukhi- the traditional Tamil dance was one of the eye-catchers of the evening. As mentioned by  SCF president Athula Amarasinghe,  the youth participation and blending the facets of the culture is for the betterment of our community living a way from our Motherland.
