Manilal Perera accompanied by Breakaway kept 300 patrons swinging and dancing until 1 a.m. on Saturday with his special brand of musical magic. The audience comprised a number of Old Peterites and their families as well as friends from the South African, Indian, Scotish, English, Filipino, Maltese and Australian communities in Sydney .
There were even a very special young couple - with Peterite connections of course, who flew down from Sri Lanka especially for the event.
Manilal belted out his repertoire of 80's and 90's classics as well as some of the more contemporary numbers by Robby Williams and Michael Buble. Of course he was not allowed to leave the stage until he gave his special version of “ Alice ” …. Who the ---- is Alice ?
When he concluded the evening it was to the strains of Frank Sinatra's “My Way”. Manilal certainly knows how to do it “His Way” The major sponsor of the event was once again ACR International Travels and Tours whose donation of a return air ticket to Sri Lanka was auctioned in order to raise funds for the medical expenses of a young cancer patient whose father is an Old Peterite. Part of the other proceeds from the evening will be used to support the College in Colombo – particularly the rugby team.
Captain Napolen and Gene were the worthy winners of the fancy dress theme competition. Flavour of Ceylon provided and excellent spread. All in all an event enjoyed by everyone.
