The SLA hosted their annual luncheon for the Senior Citizens of Sri Lanka on the 19 March 2006 at the Epping Community Hall.
The function, now very popular and well established, was attended by well over 100 guests. With the members of the Committee also in attendance.
What is so special about this event is that for past so many years, it has never failed to attract members of all communities. Participating as one united group at this event.
There were members from the Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher communities. They all came as Sri Lankans; the ladies dressed in their gorgeous sarees and the mahathayas clad elegantly as usual.
The organising committee had catered well for this occasion. The lunch menu comprised of mouth watering dishes like yellow rice, pol sambal, fish curry, batu, fried haal masso ( rice flies - direct translation ) and many other dishes and deserts.
Our seniors having had their lunch sat down for a game of Trivia followed by a game of Bingo. After this the sing song and baila dancing started.
They were entertained to some solo singing by the charming Sherine Prins who had a fabulous voice . Paul and Irish guest at the function treated every one to a beautiful flute recitals.
All in all, they all had a whale of a time and wished there were more events of this nature .
A big thank you to the Sri Lanka Association and the organising committee. |
