On 13th and 14th May 2006 the Lankarama Sri Lankan Buddhist temple in
Schofields, Sydney celebrated the 2550th year of Vesak.
Nearly 100 youth attended the youth sil program on May 13th. After the sil
many of them participated in decorating the temple for Vesak celebrations
for the next day.
14th Sunday over 350 adults and over 250 students attended the two separate
sil programs conducted by resident banthes Ven. Meeghakobure Dhammagavesi
Thero and Ven Siridhamma Thero. The students program was facilitated by the
Dhamma School teachers. The adults program was enriched by Dhamma talks
conducted by visiting banthes and guest speakers. There were nearly 400
people who attended the temple to help provide Dane for the devotees who
observed sil.
In the evening Buddhist Devotional songs, 'Bakthi Geetha' were sung by a
special group of adults, Dhamma school children and another group of
children. The temple premises was decorated and illuminated with over 100
spectacular Vesak lanterns. The Vesak Pandola was a great result of another
special group of Lankarama Devotees. This Pandola depicted "Devadharma
Jathka".
Lankarama Buddhist Youth Group provided free tea, coffee and drinks to the
people who visited in the evening.
The Sri Lankan Buddhist Vihara Association Sydney Inc (SLBVA) organised this
program with the great contributions and assistance from the Lankarama
devotees, Dhamma school students, parents and teachers, Sri Lankan community
organisations and Lankarama Buddhist Youth Group"
