Sri Lanka Association of NSW - Village Night

The  Sri Lanka Association's Village Night held on the 30th June 2006 at Bowman Hall , Blacktown was a great success and many people at the function remarked that the committee had done a fantastic job .

There were  over 270 people from  all ages from all over Sydney including Lithgo.

Catering was by Flavour of Ceylon and they organized a fantastic buffet consisting of over 28 dishes. Including rice and curry , hoppers , string hoppers gothamba roti and  many more dishes for the guests to choose.

Desserts were typically Sri Lankan with Kiri pani, sago and fruits such as waraka.

The entire hall was tasefully decorated with foliage, banana trees, clay pots and even a bycylcle, depicting a village scene in Sri Lanka. The entrance leading up to the hall was also decorated with branches of trees. Ladies were greeted at the entrance with a garland of flowers.

The band Blossoms from Melbourne really entertained  the crowd with some fantastic Sinhala, Hindi and English music.

The President SLA Mr Roshan Wickremanayake thanked the committee and  Mr Niranjan & Mrs Anoja De Alwis, the fuction coordinators for a wonderful job done. He also said that this is the second time that such a  function, unique and different,  was organized in Australia.

Mrs Gothami Indikadahena the acting Consular General also spoke.

Most of the gents were dressed  in sarongs and the ladies were dressed  in cloth and jacket. The fancy dress contest winners were Mr Omar Sheriff in the Gents category and  the  Ladies category winner was  Mrs Sandya Alahendra.

Every one had a wonderful time.
