I like to acknowledge nice things when I see them especially when I know that a lot of effort is put in for very little monetary gain. I am happy to say that I saw this yesterday at the New Years Eve dance by Suni l and his wife Mignonne.
I was not going out dancing last night. In fact I had promised to dine with friends at Darling Harbour and watch the fireworks. But two days prior, Desmond De Silva's niece Samantha De Silva visited me and told me that she was singing at a gig on New Years Eve. She said it was at Cherrybrook Community Centre. So her mother & I decided that we should go and support her. So I cancelled my dinner plans and went to the dance yesterday along with Samatha's parents.
I had never heard of the band Cascades and was very curious about how they would sound as I do like my music. I was very pleasantly surprised. Firstly, I must say that Sunil and his wife Mignonne are wonderful generous hosts who clearly love seeing people enjoying themselves. The food was outstanding - tasty, hot and plenty of it with a nice mix of dishes that all made up to be a very tasty meal.
Two bottles of wine at each table, prizes and most of all continuous music for dancing with two bands in attendance.
Cascades were so very good considering they do not play as a band often because they clearly don't market themselves. They do not get recognised as a band for the school dances or any other events. They were astute enough to recognise the potential of having a female vocalist to join them and hiring Samantha was the best thing they did and they did acknowledge that during the night.
Samatha's voice blended in so well with the rest of the vocals and it was obvious that the musicians had a passion for what they were playing because they gave of their best. I had gone to the dance to sit and listen to the music and to support Samantha's debut.
But I can honestly say that I only sat out for two songs and only because my feet ached so much! I really did enjoy the music and it came as a big surprise to me as I was not expecting to do so.
I really want to acknowledge the effort that Sunil & Mignonne put in to make the evening so enjoyable for all who were there. The ticket cost was minimal for what was a great night! Every time I looked around every table was empty because everyone was on the floor dancing! Well done Sunil & Mignonne and thank you.
And to the Cascades & Samatha, 2007 can be a good year for you guys because you have the potential to sound awesome! Keep up the passion!
