It was a 30 over per team game, played for C. E. Anandarajah Challenge cup, which was donated by the SJC, Jaffna OBA in Sydney, in memory of their much loved and highly respected loyal old boy and Principal, whose association with the school was tragically ended on June 26, 1985 . Rules were modified to suit the oldies, so that they would not get injured and that all were able to have a go at bowling and batting. Some of the rules were.. only 5 bowling steps to be taken, no LBW's given unless it was deemed deliberate, no bouncers/over the shoulder deliveries, no getting out on the first ball faced etc etc. The two main volunteer umpires: Paki Rajakone (SJC) and the newly elected Holroyd City councilor, Vasee Rajadrai (RC) St.Johns team: Royal Team: Result: The Challenge Cup and the following awards were handed over by Merchant Navy Captain Vijit Chelliah , who is also an old boy of SJC, Jaffna at the end of the game, which was notably well attended by many ladies. Best Fielder: T Thirukumar (SJC) Best Bowler: P Lingathas (SJC) Best Batsman: Janka Subasinghe (RC) Man of the Match: Mahen Selvarajah (RC) Click here to view and album of photos sent by the Organisers |
