Tharuna Youth Group's annual Charity Ball 'PULSE 2008', held 23rd of Aug. at the Castle Grand, spectacular success!

Described as 'one of the most organised events of the year' by one attendee, PULSE 2008 promised to provide a memorable evening of fine wining and dining with some splendid choices in entertainment and dancing. The PULSE Team certainly delivered well on this promise!

Among the chief guests attending were Mrs. Gabrielle Ritchie – a Representative of the Fred Hollows Foundation (one of the charities supported by Tharuna in PULSE 2007), Mr. Udaya De Silva – the President of the Sinhalese Cultural Forum and Mrs. Ajantha Randeniya – the Sinhalese Cultural Forum Youth VP.

The night started off with Tharuna members, Nath Rankothge and Isura Fonseka, MC-ing the event followed by a Welcome Address by the President of the Tharuna Youth Group – Achinthi Vithanage. Immediately after, Mrs. Gabrielle Ritchie was invited on stage to be presented with a $1000 cheque from the proceeds of PULSE 2007 by former Tharuna President, Sumudu Jayawardena, and to speak on behalf of the renowned charity to thank Tharuna for its generous contribution. During a delicious dinner of assorted pastry and sandwich delights, Tharuna Members – Sarasi Liyanage, Amali Seneviratne and Achinthi Vithanage - put on a smashing dance performance complete with masks, umbrellas and fancy footwork! A thoroughly entertaining piece! Several Raffle Prizes and a plethora of scrumptious desserts later, everyone took to the floor to dance the night away to DJ Chaz's experienced musical touch.

In summary, it was a wonderful night which simply highlighted the compassion and generosity of the youth today and the professionalism with which Tharuna delivered this event.

Congratulations to Sulo Abeysekara and Sajini Nanayakkara, The Tharuna Project Leaders for this grand event, and their PULSE Team for doing an amazing job in organising it.

Proceeds from the night will be going towards two prominent charities in Sri Lanka and Australia . 'Beyond Blue', which is a charity aimed towards preventing and creating awareness of Depression and the ICCIDD 'Tsunami Assistance Program' which provides aid to children adversely affected by the Tsunami in the Hambanthota region in Sri Lanka.

Thankyou to all those who attended on the night to make it success. Tharuna hopes to see you all again at PULSE 2009!

Well done Tharuna! It was an event to be proud of!
