The Wesley College (Colombo) Old Boys’ Association Dance, was held on Saturday, 24th May, 2008, at the Pioneer Room, Castle Grand, Castle Hill after a lapse of two years. This gala event was replete with a fine sit down dinner, wonderful music and other attractions that made the night a truly unforgettable one for the guests. The night took off with the arrival of guests, warmly greeted by lovely ladies at the door. There was a gift for every lady at the entrance. The pleasing table décor with the dark and light blue orchids, set the mood for the night. Every table had sufficient wines and a bottle of “Black Label” scotch thrown in. Before long tables filled up and the room started to gently resonate to the melody of old time English favourites. The Cazcade band kept the night buzzing with a mixture of waltzes, rock & roll, baila and an array of well known jazz numbers. If the dance floor was any indication, then one must conclude that the music was well received by all. Siva, of the Blue Elephant restaurant, kept the guests well satisfied with his wonderful entrées, mains and desserts. There was plenty and more for the guest to enjoy. Another totally unexpected and well enjoyed interlude was that belly dance performance. The vibrant rhythms of the Middle East and the gyrating hips of the belly dancers provided an exciting accompaniment with the elegant sit down dinner. It was great to see some members trying to partner these young and pretty dancers, moving their hips in rhythm to the music. Some lucky people walked away with fine prizes, mostly donated by the old boys and well wishers. The souvenir for the function was simple and a class above what we usually see. The advertisers and other contributors to the souvenir certainly got their money's worth. Needless to say the night was a great success. The many pictures you see on Ozlanka is a fine testimony to the grand dance that Wesley College has a reputation for organising and this was no exception. A night of nights where every guest went home with a memory that will last till the next Wesley College (Colombo) Old Boys' Association event. OBA President, Nizar Sappideen, his Committee and the Master of Ceremonies, Roger Foenander, planned every detail to ensure that the night was well attended and enjoyable. They were not let down from the great feed back pouring in. Well done Wesley. Click here to enjoy a selection of photos from the dance taken by Gamini Kulasuriya |
