The Sri Lankan NSW Catholic Association held their Annual Christmas Carols and Nativity Play 2009 for the 3rd consecutive year, on Saturday 5 December 2009, at the Parish Hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Seven Hills. Over 300 hundred people from the Sri Lankan Catholic community, their friends and well wishers who participated in this event were treated to a very meaningful, entertaining and enjoyable evening. The program commenced with - The Lighting of the Advent Candles by selected representatives of the Sri Lankan Catholics community in Sydney from three different generations and Fr. Jude Nicholas, the Chaplain for Sri Lankan Catholics in NSW. Advent – represents spiritual preparation by Christians for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. This was followed by a Nativity Play by the children of the Sri Lankan Catholic Community in NSW and their friends and Carols singing by the Choir. This year there were 43 children who took part in the Nativity Play which was organised through different areas in NSW. The Chief Guest – Very Rev. Monsignor Robert McGuckin, the Vicar General of Parramatta Diocese, in his speech, expressed his admiration for the presentation of the very meaningful Nativity Play and the beautiful liturgical ballet dances by the children. Other distinguished guests included the Sri Lankan Consulate General in Sydney Mr. Dayasiri Fernando, Mrs Fernando, representatives of Sinhalese Cultural Forum and the Study Centre for the Advancement of Technology and Social Welfare in Sri Lanka (SCATS)organisation. The second part of the program captured the festive mood of Christmas with more carols and songs and the arrival of Santa Claus. Santa was a great hit among the children and livened up the audience. The program ended on a solemn note with the singing of the Traditional Christmas Carol – Silent Night, reflecting the peace and joy of Christmas. Merry Christmas to All! |
