The Sinhalese Cultural Forum (SCF) organised a grand reception for the undisputed Queen of Sinhala Cinema Malini Fonseka last Friday the 04 December at the Spoons Restaurant at the Bowling Club in Blacktown. Malini has won two international awards, most popular actress award 14 times, best actress award 14 times two honours degrees and was acclaimed locally and internationally 80 times. When such a great artist is in Sydney it is not surprising that the Cultural Forum is keen to honor her and show our appreciation. Her fans who gathered in large numbers were treated to video clips of some of her movies. The presidents of the SCF, the Sri Lanka Association, Feel for Life and the Consul General spoke highly of Malini and conveyed the appreciation of the Sydney Sri Lankans to Malini. The VP Cultural awarded a plaque to Malini in recognition of her enormous contribution to Sinahala Cinema. Since the news of her arrival in Sydney our Sydney artists have been busy. Gnanathilaka has written a beautiful poem to Malini which he recited himself. Champa had written a meaninful song for Malini which our talented singer Thisal sang to Cicil's music. Malini's applaud which they received was all, that the Sydney artist wanted. The reception ended at about 11 PM. Amazing thing was most of the fans did not want to go home. Malini was in no hurry to go either. Spare a thought for the poor guys at the Bowling club who wanted to close up. |
