Gee Rasa Dhara a Classical Musical Concert organised by the Sinhalese Cultural Forum was successfully completed on last Saturday the 27 February at the Roselea Community Centre in Carlingford.

While providing good entertainment, the main purpose of this concert was to provide an opportunity for the local artists to showcase their skills. More importantly it was to provide a stage for the new and budding singers who arrived in Sydney recently. The committee members have kept their eyes and ears open in the last few months and whenever they detected singing talent made a note of it. The SCF has gone to great extend to encourage them to participate in this concert.

The orchestra was quite appropriate for the occasion with an Oriental flavour. The theme was Sri Lankan Film Songs. Beautiful old and new Sinhala film songs were skilfully sung by the well known and soon to be well known Sydney artists. Some of the new lady singers were so attractive they should seriously consider attending a beauty contest.

A Tamil singer stole the show with a fantastic presentation on Siri Sara Bulath Vita to much applaud of the mostly Sinhlalese audience.

Everyone agreed that the new singers have shown great potential. If this is the level of talent we are going to get in Sydney, we can expect greater levels of entertainment from musical events in the future.

The two young persons who assisted in compeering short and sweet in Sinhala did a marvellous job also providing interesting information about each film and the song.

One disappointment was the attendance of about 200 people which a SCF committee member said “not bad”. The standard of the music, perfect sound mixing and singing were at such a high level it is a pity that more people could not enjoy the fantastic evening.
