Dinesh stages an outstanding pageant of traditional Sri Lanka dance at the Riverside theatre in Parramatta

Nruthyabhisheka, a pageant of traditional Sri Lankan dance held on last Saturday night (9th Oct) at Riverside Theatre, Parramatta was a colourful cultural event proudly presented by Sanka Ridma Dance Ensemble.

"Nruthyabhisheka" means a ceremony of crowning male dancers with holy head gears of Kandyan dancers called 'VES' after graduating the dancer as professional dancers. The female dancers also introduce to the world as professional dancers after the graduation ceremony called 'Kalaeli Mangallaya".

Dancers are traditionally graduated in these ceremonies after achieving the required skills and knowledge in Sri Lankan traditional dances in Kandyan style, drumming and singing. For a dance to achieve this level of skills and knowledge, it is required for them to go through many years of rigorous training and learning about dances, history, culture, costumes, customs and more importantly disciplines.
