The retreat team consisted of eight members led by Bro. Lalith Perera, a well known preacher in the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka . He is the head of The Community of the Risen Lord, a Charismatic Renewal group in the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka, whose vision is to “take the renewal to the heart of the catholic church” and their mission being “to do so without claiming any ownership”.

This retreat is conducted in Catholic parishes all over Sri Lanka almost every month or even more often. The Sydney chapter of this community organized the retreat which has been conducted annually in Melbourne over the past 3 years and also in several other cities of different countries.

More than 300 people attended the retreat on the first day and many more on the second day. The chaplain to the Sri Lnakan Catholic community in NSW, Rev Fr Jude Nicholas played a very vital supportive role offering his advice and guidance to the organizing group, and being present at the retreat both days from beginning to the end. The retreat was an awesome experience for everyone who took part in it, experiencing The love and mercy of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The proceedings started with the lighting of The traditional oil lamp after the guests were received and garlanded by four little girls at the entrance to the hall. Mr Paul Newman, a Catholic Aboriginal Australian welcomed the retreat team to Australia and a member of the Sydney group of The Community of the Risen Lord delivered the welcome speech.

At the end of the retreat, Bro. Lalith, fondly known as Lalith thaththa called upon those who were present to continue this journey in The Risen Christ. Weekly Praise and Worship are currently being held at Stanhope Gardens and from 19 th February onwards, they will be held at The Parish Office Hall of the Our Lady of The Holy Rosary church, Kellyville.
