The most popular dance band in Sri Lanka in the seventies, The Super Golden Chimes had two of their reunion concerts in Sri Lanka in August 2003 and 2004. They then toured USA and Canada where they entertained thousands of fans. The eager fans in Australia were still yearning to see the Knights of the musical arena of good old days with nostalgic expectations. The invitation from Australia was given about two years ago with a definite intention to quench the musical taste of dedicated fans scattered in all states in Down Under who wouldn't settle for the second best. However getting all members together from the four corners was as hard as putting together a scattered jigsaw as members have pursued their lives' priories and established themselves in various strata. The most crucial part of this exercise as the leader Mr.Annesly Malawana said was reaching members of the band scattered around the globe with the proposal and a demanding time slot. While Mr.Rukshan Perera resides in USA Mr.Dikson Gunerathne and Mr.Nimal Perera reside in Switzerland. Our very own Mr.Nimal Punchihewa lives in Sydney and Mr.Conrad Gunerathne lives in Germany while the rest of the team lived in Sri Lanka. After planing the Australian tour for two years the mission was culminated in April 2010. The Aussie tour of the band started in Perth and has entertained thousands of Srilankans living in Melbourne and Sydney. Sydney show organised by Mr.Sivakumaran from Blue Elephant restaurant was a great success with over 500 attendees. Mr. Sivakumaran added that the last fifteen minutes of the show was spectacular as the entire audients got off their seats and started to dance. Towards the end of the show Mr. Sivakumaran made very special thanks to Mrs.Devika Punchihewa and Nimal better known as Punchi for their dedicated efforts in making this show a big success from the day it was planned to the very end. Mr. Sivakumaran also thanked Ozlanka and Mr.Kithsiri Karunarathne for their commitment in media support. The line up for the Aussie tour comprised of Mr.Annesley Malawana, Mr.Dixson Gunatarthne ( lead guitar) , Mr.Paul Perera ( keyboards) Mr.Rukshan Perera (lead guitar & vocals) , Mr.Nimal Perera ( drums, percussion & vocals), Mr. Nimal Punchihewa ( drums, percussion & vocals), Mr. Melantha Perera ( bass guitar & vocals). Mr. Sivakumaran thanked all the band members after their successful show at the Bowmen hall Blacktown, at the official after party dinner hosted at the Blue Elephant Restaurant. He said almost every one in the venue personally thanked him for organising such a wonderful event which made him feel very proud and satisfied. The standard of the music, the arrangements, the selections and the presentation was absolutely superb and beyond expectations according many spectators. During the official dinner Mr. Annesley Malawana thanked Mr. Sivakumaran for his warmest hospitality extended to the band members throughout their stay in Sydney. Mr. Nimal Punchihewa living in Sydney added that it has always been a pleasure working with Mr.Sivakumaran as whatever he does is done in with a commitment and the assurance of customer satisfaction. The show has been a life time experience for the Sri Lankans in Sydney and created an opportunity to turn the time back to the Golden Era Of The Seventies. |
