A Night with the Islanders - Celebrating their second annual dinner dance with over 200 guests |
|||||
On the 8th of May 2010, the Lankan Islanders celebrated their second annual dinner dance with resounding success. What started as a mere vision to create a Sri Lankan orientated sports club that nurtures and promotes young and budding athletes, turned into fruition with more than 200 guests turning up to the gala night! As part of the Club's growing commitment to charities, we are dedicated to helping underprivileged children within Sri Lanka through “Candle Aid”. This year we were fortunate enough to have one of our clubmen, Srinath Vitanage to be able to travel to Sri Lanka and meet with one of the girls we are sponsoring. The night started off with Srinath giving a presentation of his experiences and of the help and support the Lankan Islanders were able to provide through money raised from these dinner dances. Presentations were then made to the Club's top cricketers who completed a successful season, with both Islanders team reaching the semi-finals and one losing narrowly in the grand final. The talent within the Club is amazing and it was extremely important to recognise the efforts made by these cricketers throughout the season. With the formal proceedings aside, the festivities were able to commence. There were two main performers setting the dance floor ablaze during the evening. The first was Irvy who brought young and old onto the dance floor from the early onset of the night with tremendous renditions of hit after hit. From there DJ Nightwalkers ended the night off with a bang with a culmination of R&B, House and Trance to ensure that every single guest had an extremely entertaining night. The celebratory dancing and singing was dispersed with a delicious buffet dinner served by RAMS. Starting off with delicious vegetable & lamb samosas for entrees, guests were then treated to a large variety of mains ranging from butter chicken to devilled prawn. Delicious Wattalapan and fruit salad was then served as desert to cap off an extremely sumptuous dinner for the evening. Along with a silent auction, raffles and lucky door prizes, the Lankan Islanders ensured that every guest had an extremely enjoyable time. All in all it was an extremely successful night and we look forward to seeing all the guests next year for another evening of celebration and fun times with the Lankan Islanders.
