Annual ‘Katina Pooja' at Lankarama, Sydney |

The above major religious event and celebrations was held at Lankaramaya, Oak Street, Schofields, Sydney on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October 2010. The function which lasted two days was organized by Sri Lanka Bhuddist Vihara Association, attended by over one thousand of devotees and around 25 Venerable Bahnthes invited from various temples in NSW and other States around Australia. Religious ceremonies were conducted by Venerable Meegahakumbure Dhammagavesi Thero, the Chief incumbent of the Vihara. The event commenced with the chanting of Maha Piritha on the night of Friday 29th. On Saturday the 30th the traditional ‘Katina Cheewara' was prepared and offered to Banthes as a prolouge to many meritorious activities that followed. The ceremony ended with Buddha Pooja and Katina ‘Anisansa Dhamma Desana' in the evening of the 30th. The 2010 Katina Celebrations was indeed a very special event as it coincided with the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Lankarama Chethiya.
