Mamai Banai musical drama held at Ryde Civic Center, 8th Aug. a great success with over 350 attending

The well famous artistes duo Rohana Baddage & Bandula Wijeweera brought back old memories of their popular songs and hilarious jokes. Interestingly this time the story was different and there were number of new songs compared to the last Mamai Banai show which was held in 2007.

The show was organised by SPUR Youth group and SPUR NSW with the help of Australian Sri Lankan Forum (ASF). SPUR has organised the Mamai Banai event to raise funds for the ‘Ranviru Kakulu' scholarship program, which SPUR Youth has been successfully running for the last 4 years.

There are 46 kids who are receiving benefits of this scholarship program. These kids are very poor and their parents can't afford their education. Some of these kid's parents are disabled soldiers. The people, who came to see Mamai Banai on last Sunday, not only enjoyed the show, but also contributed to this great cause.

The drama was a delight to watch with some traditional dancing performed by the local artists. Shehara Wijayapala, Harini Wijesundara and Charunie Edirisinghe showed the local dancing talents for ‘Kula Gedarin' song. Mala Abeywickrama and Shenya Abeywickrama organised a traditional dance for ‘Raajavo Mangaliyaaa' song, which was performed by 6 kids. There were 5 kids who produced music for famous ‘Helena' song. These kids were trained by Thushari Edirisingle.

There were quite a few guests at the event including Sydney Sri Lanka consul general Mr. P.D. Fernando and Navy Commander Sujeewa.

The musical drama was proudly sponsored by OZLanka web site, Hela Hada radio, SBS radio and the Germen Tech radio broadcasting co-operations.

Everyone who came to see the drama was delighted and the feedback was outstanding. The Mamai Banai souvenir will keep the good memories of this show. The souvenir contained three letters which were written by three kids who are getting benefitted from the Ranaviru Kakaulu scholarship program.

It was great to see that all the Sri Lankan clubs have contributed for this cause and it was fascinating to see the completion of yet another good show by the patriotic youngsters of the SPUR Youth. It indicates that young Sydney Sri Lankan generation will keep up the good work, which was started by Sydney Sri Lankans seniors decades ago.
