Hemal Jayawickrama launches his four hundred and fifty page novel on July 2nd at Blacktown |

“Manulee is a four hundred and fifty paged novel written by Hemal Jayawickrama. This is an accomplishment in itself because it is the most voluminous and most successful product of this kind from a member of the Australian Sinhalese Community”. This was stated by the well-known writer and a media personality, Dr Palitha Ganewatta. He announced this during the book launch of “Manulee” which was held at the Marayong Public School, Blacktown witnessed by hundreds on 2nd July 2011. The event commenced with the Chief Guest, honourable Consulate General Mr Dayasiri Fernando and several other distinguished guests participating in the lighting of the traditional ceremonial lamp. This was followed by Hemal’s presentation of his maiden literacy work to Dr Piyasoma Medis, who went on to deliver a brief but fruitful speech on ‘Tradition of Sinhalese Novel Writing’. He congratulated Hemal for joining this tradition. Reviewing the book, Mr Rasika Suriyarachchi who is a well-known writer, credited the new author for his maturity as a novelist and regarded Manulee to be one of the most successful Sinhalese novels produced in Australia. During the intermission, the audience enjoyed variety of delicious food and refreshments after which the entertainment commenced.
