“CURRY CAPERS” – An evening when old friends relaxed and caught up on news and views, new friends were made and acquaintances renewed, music for every mood and taste was provided by Irvy, the one-man musical wonder, and a fantastic spread of string-hoppers, roti, pittu, thosai, savoury rice and mouth-watering accompaniments to suit this variety of Sri Lankan food, catered by Rams, topped off an evening to remember. The event was organised by the NSW Branch of the PPA of Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena and held on 5 th March at the Don Moore Community Centre in North Rocks. Guests arriving at the elegantly decorated venue received a warm welcome from members of the Committee and were ushered to their tables where they sampled entrees of pan-rolls and samosars, individually served, as a taste of the culinary treats to follow. The music struck up and soon toe-tapping feet found their way to the dance floor to begin an evening of revelry. The music ranged from waltzes and blues, through the familiar hits of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, to music for the swingers of the 21st century and, of course, the much-loved Baila! It was no wonder that the dance floor got a really good work-out through the evening from dancers young and not-so-young, and every age in-between. The night was enlivened with a raffle draw, with the lucky winners departing with vouchers for dinner at restaurants in Sydney, gift vouchers and a variety of other prizes. A Trivia quiz conducted through the evening kept guests involved in the fun and challenge of working together to make their mark at this event. The evening’s programme provided something for everyone, and the organisation was slick. The President of the Association introduced her Committee to the guests present, thanking them for their team-work and support in making the event a success. And well she should. This team of ladies has organized this event annually over many years and always proves that they have what it takes to work hard and unselfishly together for a greater cause. The School Song was sung lustily by the past pupils present at the event. The love and pride they display of their Alma Mater is well placed. Roll on, Curry Capers 2012! |
