Past pupils Association of St Bridgets Convent in Sydney present their 'High Tea with a Twist'

By our special correspondent

On the eve of their 25th Anniversary, the Past pupils Association of St Bridgets Convent in Sydney held their much-advertised “High Tea With a twist” on Sunday 30th October.

The tickets were sold out almost as soon as they were printed and the event advertised on Ozlanka. The belles of St Bridgets had transformed the “Spoons Restaurant “ into a trendy, friendly, fashionable venue with the unusual theme of Teapots / teacups detailed in delicate shades of Pink.

Clearly much thought and effort had gone into getting the setting just right. Pink balloons with the SBC stamp on them, decorated the stairway leading up to the reception hall. The chairs were covered in pink with pink ties. Cane cups and saucers filled with pink roses were the centrepieces for all the tables. Teapots and a “teapot” cake had been placed on a display table along with a varied selection of imported teas. DILMAH provided their special blends and flavors that were in popular demand. Champagne, wine and juices were available for the non tea drinkers.

The Teatime favourites were a cut above the standard cheese & tomato sandwiches. It balanced hot and cold, luxury and restraint, and a range of delicate flavours and textures. Three-tiered glass stands carried the hand-made creations of the Bridgeteens. Colourful pinwheels, roast beef, asparagus, tuna, egg and cheese, chillie and cheese were some of the mouth-watering sandwiches. Panrolls, vadais, patties, cutlets and fried prawns were the traditional finger foods served. For the sweet lovers there were chocolate cakes, butter cake ribbon cake meringues, chocolate-coated strawberries, marshmallows, milk toffee, cookies and cupcakes.

A bridal pageant added another dimension to the tea party. Beautiful / handsome models paraded in glamorous outfits exhibiting the Burgher [Kristen &Cameron], Tamil [Laura & Sunny], Malay [Maritana & Tim] & Kandyan [Anoushka & Christian] styles. The little flower girls [Vanessa & Tara] and page boy [Xander] were the stars of this show.

Chris & Gordon provided the music for the afternoon with a mix of easy listening laid-back rock selections & some great dance music. The dazzling array of prizes displayed may have promoted the quick sale of raffle tickets. The games were focused on guest participation and were enjoyed by all.

It was indeed a pleasant afternoon with a difference and a twist.
