Lak Saviya Foundation Charity Dinner 2011 – Another event belonging to a team of dedicated volunteers, well-wishers and guests…

On Saturday 19th March, for the fourth successive year, the Lak Saviya Foundation’s All You Can Eat Charity Dinner 2011 was held at Roselea Community Centre. This sold out event showcased the generous nature and giving spirit of the wonderful community in which we live in – the night was deemed a huge success.

Although the weather was not contributing favourably, the warmth and cosiness inside Roselea Community Centre offered guests with an inviting ambience.  The food stalls comprised of hoppers, dosai, rice and curry, desserts and drinks; and this delicious menu ensured that guests enjoyed a filling, plentiful meal to their hearts’ content, while contributing towards a worthwhile cause.

About 100 committed and dedicated volunteers ushered the guests to their respective tables, tidied-up tables for new arrivals and more importantly, prepared and served mouth-watering, authentic Sri Lankan food for the guests – all with a smile on their faces. Throughout the night, over 700 guests consisting of all ages and ethnicities enjoyed the dinner.

The event raised about $15,000. The Lak Saviya Foundation aims to use these funds carefully in order to provide assistance to the needy in Sri Lanka and elsewhere.

The net income from our Charity Dinner 2010 was $13,000 and these funds were effectively used to provide:

  • 10 artificial limbs for the needy through Centre for Handicapped
  • 100 folding beds to Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital
  • Vocational and IT training for disabled youth through Saviya Development Foundation.
  • About 40 ICU beds to Jaffna Hospital and other rural hospitals
  • 50 bicycles for school children, and water pumps and seeds for newly resettled families in northern Sri Lanka
  • $1000 assistance for displaced children from the Haiti disaster through Save the Children Australia

Lak Saviya Foundation has no boundaries and strives to make a difference with the notion of “Helping the needy help themselves”.

We extend our sincerest appreciation to all guests, sponsors and well-wishers for joining with us. Last but not least, we would like to offer a big, heartfelt “Thank You” to our volunteers for their tireless efforts.

“You can make a difference – Together we can make it happen”
