Royal College Old Boys in NSW and ACT Celebrate – Royal August Fiesta |
|||||
The celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Old Boys of Royal College NSW and ACT marked by the Royal August Fiesta at the Castle Grande on 6 August was an impressive function. It was well attended by over 300 guests, many of them old royalists with their partners but also an appreciable number of well wishers and friends. The RCOBA committee, led by their President Deva Mylvaganam, had clearly done their homework as the organisation of the function was impeccable with a seamless flow of a packed and varied agenda. While formalities were kept to a minimum, they were of great interest and relevance to old royalists. Of note was the eulogy delivered by Sunil De Silva, a distinguished old royalist and current committee member, on the passing away of one of Royal’s greatest sportsmen, Gamini Goonesena. Another was the formal recognition of seven old royalists for outstanding service to the RCOBA – each had served for at least 5 years in the RCOBA committee over a period of time – which was greatly appreciated by many of the old royalists. There were many things to enjoy at this function which was very well orchestrated by the MC Suren Ramachandran. The pre dinner drinks outside the function room where guests were afforded the opportunity of having their photographs taken by professionals, the tasteful décor of the hall, the excellent and tasty 3 course sit down meal served efficiently by well trained servers, an auction for a cricket ball signed by Muralitharan, a range of raffle prizes which clearly drew great interest and music by the Cazcades band and the DJ Shankster – a great variety of old and more modern songs including an unforgettable baila session - had the dance floor full at all times.
