Following requests from two principals of schools in Mutur Trincomalee, SPUR NSW donated essential items to the students and the schools.

SPUR NSW recently donated school items such as computers, Sport gears, Library equipment including two display cabinets, a large selection of comprehensive laboratory equipment and stationery items to Sri Gajamugha Tamil Vidyalaya and Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya in Mutur, Tricomalee.

In addition to the above 22 pairs of shoes were donated to students who could not afford to purchase their own shoes due to family circumstances. Most of the students were keen to proceed with their studies but their basic needs could not be met by their parents. Contributions are the mainstay in helping to educate these young Sri Lankan children.

With the SPUR NSW donation, many childen in these two schools from both the Tamil and Sinhalese communities in the Trinco region benefitted directly. The warmth extended to Mr. Nelson Piyaratna by the principals and staff was overwhelming. The children too displayed their joy with wide eyes and wet cheeks.

Sri Lanka Navy coordinated the project communicating with the schools to assess the need of each school. Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee South) Commodore PM Wickramasinghe, Commanding Officer Fast Attack Flotilla (FAF4) Captain Sujeewa Seneviratna and Commanding Officer Kinniya Rohan Dissanayaka attended the handing over ceromonies held at the school premises.

Mr Nelson Piyaratna, former president of SPUR NSW handed over the items.

While in Trincomalee, Nelson also made it a point to talk with staff members of both schools and hear their views.

Congratulations to SPUR for this timely contribution and their keeness to help all communities without bias or prejudice.
