Australia Day – Tree Planting organised by the Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara Association.

One of the Development Approval requirements from the Council and Department of Water and Energy (DWE) is to develop a Riparian Zone along the First Ponds Creek to protect its banks.

The work of the newly developed Dharmasalawa project is now nearing completion. Devotees of Lankarama Temple carried out planting on Australia Day to beautify the surroundings of new building, to add serenity to the temple complex in addition to meet the above council requirement.

Devotees selected and bought the trees from the organisers and planted them in a carefully arranged layout prepared by horticultural experts and approved by the DWE. Funds raised from the event will be used to continue the remaining work of the Riparian zone and Dharmasalawa Project. There were native trees, plants and shrubs among total of 2000 plants of which around 600 were planted on Australia Day.

The activity will continue during next week end and week end after from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. Organisers intend to plant another 1000 plants on this day.

Those who couldn’t participate on the 26th Jan can come to the temple next week end to participate and help the SLBVA to achieve this requirement.
